Aromatherapy is the practice of using 100% pure plant oils, for psychological and physical well-being. Essential oils are the pure essences of plants that have been distilled through various means, like steam distillation, the expression of a fruit’s peel, or by using a solvent. In this pure state, a plant’s physical and psychological benefits are magnified and can be used and combined for maximum effect. Each essential oil has its own distinct effects on the body and mind.

Examples of the effects of different oils:

Grapefruit: depression, exhaustion and stress, acne, appetite stimulant, balances the digestive system
Lavender: Very Relaxing, headaches, calms emotions, muscle spasms, strains, sprains, cramps, insomnia
Lemon: Clarity, cooling refreshing the mind, headaches, migraines, stimulates pancreas
Peppermint: Mental exhaustion, headaches, fainting, depression, colds, fever, aches, pains, morning sickness, nausea
Tea Tree: strongest antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal
Eucalyptus: Clears the head, aids concentration and strengthens the nervous system, good for infections or inflammation

The word Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) means universal life-force energy. Reiki is a Japanese holistic, light-touch, energy-based modality. Working as a support mechanism to the body, Reiki re-establishes a normal energy flow of ki (life force energy) throughout the system, which in turn can enhance and accelerate the body's innate healing ability. Through a series of hand positions either directly on or just above the body, the energy worker allows for the flow of energy through their body. The client’s body then draws off the amount of energy that is required. The simplicity of a Reiki session may raise some skepticism; however, after experiencing it, many clients keep coming back for more of those relaxing feelings.

Reflexology is a focused pressure technique, directed at the feet. It is based on the premise that there are zones and reflexes the feet which correspond to and effect all parts, glands and organs of the entire body. When the reflexes are stimulated, the body's natural energy works along the nervous system to clear any blockages in the corresponding zones. A reflexology session breaks up deposits (felt as a sandy or gritty area under the skin) which may interfere with this natural flow of the body's energy. Manipulating specific reflexes removes stress, activating a parasympathetic response in the body to enable the disharmonies to be released by a physiological change in the body. With stress removed and circulation improved, the body is allowed to return to a state of homeostasis.
